Another new venue this time in Warboys.

The Royal Oak is run by Helen and Andy, they have been really accommodating. Great pub with plenty of outside seating near the car park.

This night does clash with their weekly Tuesday quiz but they do not anticipate this being an issue. On pub quiz nights, the kitchen is closed, and as an alternative, they will have a food truck in the car park.

The food truck on the 16th will  be offering Greek food.  They have offered to rope off the car park so we are able to park in the pub car park on the evening.

A member (Chris Jones) of the Club has arranged with his friend for the Club to visit his venue - Hardwick Aircraft Hanger and Museum on Sunday 18 August .

Opening hours are 10AM to 4PM

The museum has artefacts from a Lancaster that attacked the Dams (which was made into the famous film, The Dambusters).

Loads more including Spitfire engines, and several older aircraft.

We are also down as one of the main attractions on the day (use the link to their website and scroll down...). There will be signposts out for the event in case the satnavs get confused. The only building in the postcode is the airfield / Museum..

Camera are a must !

Note - this is a few miles from Hardwick Airfield

There is a cafe on site for hot drinks.

Entry is free but would appreciate a donation

Fish and Chip Run

Dunwich Beach Rd
Dunwich
IP17 3EN
EATOC

The route is almost identical to the one we ran last year, however there is a small change as we approach Dunwich which saves about 3 miles of driving on the A12.

Now Maurice Hammond (Hardwick Airfield) has said he will do a flypast and take pictures from the air, so if we can get enough cars on the run (I think we need a minimum of 14) and a large parking area we could try and spell out the club name in cars so it is visbile from the air. This depends on weather, parking space, and the number of cars that come out for the run so may not happen.

Plan for the day is as follows:

Tulip Navigation Run

12/10/24 TBA EATOC

We have had a reshuffle of events in October and as such we have dropped the Rutland Ramble from the calendar.

However the Tulip Run is back after a few years with a few differences.

For those of you who have never done a tulip run before it consists of starting at a known location being given a set of instruction which just show junctions and distances and you have to navigate your way there. Examples can be found here for reference I use style D.

A blob shows the direction you are coming from, and an arrow shows where you need to go

Now the route will be probably about 60-70 miles or a couple of hours.

So what do you need to do this:

1. A navigator - sorry but I am not letting anyone do this solo as the need to check the direction and drive safely makes it too dangerous. Also the organiser is not liable for arguments between driver and navigator or any repercussions.

2. A car - we are doing this in the middle of October so the weather could be well… anything. If you don’t want to bring the kit do it in your everyday vehicle.

3. I need to find a suitable location for lunch after doing the event - as we are asking for spaces on a Saturday lunchtime so I may need to pay a deposit so I need to know an idea of numbers fairly soon ideally before the 20th September.

Interested - if you want more details make contact through the contact page linked above and I will do my best to answer them.
